Okay. So I'm only a level 28ish mage. This is my first character past level 16 and WoW is my first mmorpg. So what do I need you all for? Just about every question I have. But most importantly right now...I'm buggered trying to decide between creating a Paladin or a Rogue for a few simple reasons. The paladin has great staying power and probably solo's just about better than any other class (due to heavy armor, healing, etc.) but the Rogue does some serious damage and is just plain cool. My favorite character in Diablo2LOD was the Assassin and this is who I liken the Rogue to naturally. What do you all think? What side should I lean to? Damage...or solo-ability?
Of course I could also just be offbeat about my perceptions of these classes. Let me know about that too. Thanks! Hoping for some good replies. _________________ S1N while you're short. I'm 4'11''. Let's roll. |

Paladin is the most grossly overpowered class in the game, you might as well make one and level it up before the nerf bat hits it.

I've heard a lot about the paladin being a powerful class, but I'm not so sure I'd even go so far as to call it the most powerful. Each class has it's own strengths for sure. For example, Paladins can't used ranged weapons. Ever. That's a bit of a downer in my opinion But that considered. Thanks for the input. Keep the thoughts coming everyone! I'm staying on top of this forum trying to really feel out what I want to do. _________________ S1N while you're short. I'm 4'11''. Let's roll. |

Rogues are one of the only classes that can do enough damage in between cooldowns on a pally's shield, and stun them enough to prevent healing. stay close, heal when they shield and you are gtg. _________________ [42 Troll Rogue]

Geek, Pallys get to cast Immunity WHILE STUNNED, making it nearly impossible for a rogue of similar level to kill one.
As far as overpowered classes go, yes the lack of ranged pulling is an issue, but a heavy armor wearing, phat damage causing, self healing tank that can decide to go immune to damage AND KEEP MOVING AND CAST AND HEAL ITSELF make the pally the most grossy overpowered god class in the game. Pretty much any other class can be taken down by a rogue using solid tactics and a knowlage of your class. I have yet to figure out a way to reliably kill a pally.

So a Paladin probably could take a Rogue. I can buy that and I'm sure the hammer swings the other way on occasion. Skill with your character does account for a lot in this game. Anyone who's spent any amount of time in elite instances knows this. Let me ask this then. Does the Paladin or the Rogue do better damage over an entire encounter. Another way of phrasing that...which character could kill a mob 2+ levels higher than them...fastest? Thanks for the input. Keep it coming.
Immunities do kick ass...no doubt. But damn that rogue just looks good. By the way. I just won tickets to the Erotica Ball in Wichita today. I won't be online tomorrow...oh wait? Yeah. I won't. _________________ S1N while you're short. I'm 4'11''. Let's roll. |

Are you talking about PvP or PvE here? A Rogue is DPS, so for PvE he is probably the main damage dealer along with the tanks. A Paladin in PvE is not really supposed to be a tank, warriors do that job better. Paladins are support tanks that can heal, imho. They are good tanks too don't get me wrong but Warriors are better for that (talking about PvE here).
A Rogue will always go down much faster than either of them, even with evasion up.
Now if you are talking about PvP, the Paladin certainly is one of the hardest classes to kill at the moment 1on1. I don't really know if they are as powerful in group PvP though since basically they are designed to keep themselves alive a long time.
I play a Rogue... and I CAN kill every other class in the game if I use the right tactics. Against a skilled druid or mage e.g. however it is an absolute must that I get to attack them before they see me though. As a Rogue you can't just run into your enemy with guns blazing, but then again you probably can't do that with any class in the game.
I can't really say if any class is overpowered, Horde players say Paladins are.... Alliance Players say Shaman are.... that's because they are unique to each side and the other side can't have them though I guess.
However, I can kill a Shaman in a 1on1 more easily than I could kill a Paladin. In fact I haven't won a duel against a Paladin since I am 60. But a duel is not really saying much, imho. This game is about group PvP, when Battlegrounds come in it's about large scale group PvP. 1 on 1 fights are irrelevant for the bigger scheme. I don't see how a Paladin is overpowered in group PvP. _________________

Well we are definitely talking mostly PvP here since LS is a PvP server. I think leveling/questing (all that PvE is really good for) is something that is fairly equal for both classes. One might take a bit longer to 60, but that is no real concern of mine. I'm more concerned with which class can work out better in battles. I can't imagine a Rogue is really that much better than a Palain in group battle. I'll probably just end up making both classes eventually. I guess that unless someone can convince me which class is more fun to play I'll probably just end up making whatever class get's the most votes by a certain time. _________________ S1N while you're short. A Rogue does more damage, can snare, stun every 20 seconds, sap, and my finishing moves can do 1600+ damage... like I said the Rogue is a fast killer. The Paladin is a slower killer that can heal himself and will survive longer. _________________

So what if I played a Rogue with First Aid? Is that of any use at all? I know it isn't instant but some of the best bandages heal like 100+ hp a second I think? That might be an interesting route. _________________ S1N while you're short. I'm 4'11''. Let's roll. |

the best bandages heal for 250 a second, you can't move or get hit while being banaged, hence it's tricky to use them in combat. you need to get a stun off after getting 5 combo points before. and even then you won't be able to use the bandage to it's fullest potential cause the stun will wear off before you're done (that is if you are only fighting 1 opponent, if it's more than 1 on you, you can't bandage at all). _________________

So much for that idea then I suppose. Rogues don't have any sort of mass stun? I ask only because the heal ability (bandage or otherwise) is mostly only useful in group fights. 1v1 you should be able to handle whatever it is you chose to aggro. Assuming...BTW- What is sap? _________________ S1N while you're short. I'm 4'11''. Let's roll. |

Rogues don't get an AoE stun, no.
In PvE and PvP against 1 opponent you can bandage during the fight by doing
what I described (getting 5 combo points, then kidney shot, target will be stunned for 6 seconds).
Sap is a rogue only attack skill, perfomed while stealthed. It basically knocks out 1 opponent for a while. In PvP it can't be more than 15 seconds anymore since it got nerfed. In PvE it's much more than 15 seconds. Any damage caused to the target will break sap.
It's very nice for instance run. I chosed to get improved sap 3/3 out of the subtlety tree which gives me a 90% chance to stay stealthed after I sapped. So if you have 2 rogues e.g. I can sap one, stay stealthed (hopefully) and the other rogue can sap another target.
Downside: only works on Humanoid targets. _________________

Hmm there is no right or wrong answer.
Play a pally if you enjoy the whole tanking thing.
Play a rogue if you like being behind the scenes, stealthing up to ppl, and causing massive damage. However be forewarned they are COMPLETE opposite classes. Rogues are a solo class, Pallys are more of a grp class. Rogues get to pick and choose when/where to fight etc.
